4-year-old boy passes away after telling mom ‘under my arm hurts’

Sammy Knowles, a mother from Sheffield, expressed her profound sorrow following the unexpected loss of her miracle child, 4-year-old Jaxon Knowles.

Sammy and her husband had taken their son on what they anticipated would be a memorable vacation. However, upon returning home, Jaxon began to complain of discomfort beneath his arm.

He subsequently fell asleep but awoke with abdominal pain, as recounted by his heartbroken mother.

Jaxon requested that his mother sleep beside him, a request he typically made when he was unwell. To help reduce his fever, she administered paracetamol, a remedy she had previously used for his chest infections. Tragically, when she checked on him around 5 a.m., she noticed a rash on his body. Initially suspecting chickenpox, it soon became clear to her that the situation was far more grave.

As the rash intensified, Sammy called for an ambulance. “His mouth and tongue began to swell, and he vomited. We dialed 999, and while we awaited the ambulance, he struggled to breathe. We had to position him on his side,” she recounted to YorkshireLive.

Upon their arrival at the hospital, Jaxon was already in critical condition. He was bleeding from his mouth, and the medical team informed his parents that he needed to be placed in a coma and transferred to a pediatric hospital.

Unfortunately, despite the doctors’ best efforts, Jaxon’s young heart could not endure. The medical team later revealed that he had succumbed to meningitis, passing away on the morning of February 17.

“I can’t comprehend this,” Sammy said tearfully. “He was perfectly fine just hours earlier. There were no indications, no symptoms of meningitis. It struck without warning.”

“He was our miracle baby,” the grieving mother added. “We spent seven years trying to conceive, enduring multiple rounds of IVF. After three miscarriages, he was our final hope.”
The parents of young Jaxon Knowles are actively working to raise awareness about meningitis. “If we can assist even one family, it would mean the world to us,” stated his father, Jordan.

Detecting the symptoms of meningitis can be challenging, as they often overlap with those of other illnesses. Common symptoms include intense headaches, neck pain when leaning forward, a stiff neck, and occasionally, sensitivity to light.

As the illness advances, additional symptoms may manifest, such as confusion, extreme fatigue, or seizures. In response to this tragedy, Jaxon’s family has established a charity page to generate funds for the organization Meningitis Now.

In an interview with the BBC, Jason remarked, “We understand that there was no vaccination available for Jax. With increased funding and research, perhaps future advancements can be made.”

“He meant everything to us,” expressed his mother, Sammy. “Now, there is just an emptiness. Our home feels vacant. Our lives feel hollow. We have lost everything.”

Jaxon’s beloved football club, Sheffield Wednesday, will pay tribute during their upcoming match against Sunderland.

May he rest in peace.
