American Airlines Plane Caught Fire After Landing — What Happened to Passengers on Board
The prompt response of the American Airlines flight crew played a crucial role in ensuring a safe landing without any casualties after the pilots decided to divert the aircraft due to unusual engine behavior.
One of the recent incidents highlighted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) occurred on March 13, 2025. Following engine complications, American Airlines Flight 1006 was compelled to reroute to Denver International Airport. This flight, which was traveling from New York to Delhi, made an unscheduled stop in Rome.
The Boeing 737-800 was redirected to Denver shortly after its departure from Colorado Springs Airport, Colorado. The diversion took place approximately 20 minutes post-takeoff, and the aircraft landed in Denver about an hour later.
As reported by the FAA, the plane successfully landed at Denver International Airport around 5:15 p.m. local time after the crew detected engine vibrations. Although the landing was executed without incident, one of the engines ignited while the aircraft was taxiing to the gate.
Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides at the overwing exit, while others exited through the jet bridge. The flight had 172 passengers and six crew members, all of whom were safely evacuated.
However, a statement from Denver International Airport indicated that 12 individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Thick black smoke was visible as the engine burned on the tarmac.
Witnesses at the airport captured additional footage from a safe distance, showing passengers being escorted away from the burning aircraft.
Videos shared on X also depicted airport personnel working to extinguish the flames amidst the surrounding white smoke.
In a statement to a news agency shortly after the event, American Airlines expressed gratitude, stating, “We thank our crew members, the DEN team, and first responders for their swift and decisive actions, prioritizing the safety of everyone on board and on the ground.”The airline has also announced that it is in the process of securing a substitute aircraft to carry passengers to their planned destination. Those impacted by the situation will be flown to Dallas-Fort Worth, as the initial flight was headed to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport at the time of the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration is presently conducting an investigation into the issue.
