Ariana Grande signing fans pictures at the BAFTA’s

Ariana Grande has long been a cherished icon in the entertainment realm, celebrated for her exceptional talent, striking beauty, and approachable demeanor.

Nonetheless, her recent public appearances have raised alarms among her supporters.

“Alarmingly thin”
Ariana Grande became a prominent figure after her early success as a child star on the show Victorious. Throughout the years, she has experienced numerous changes, both in her career and personal life. However, her latest transformation, characterized by significant weight loss, has notably drawn the attention of her fans.

During her appearance on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards, social media was soon inundated with remarks regarding her physical condition once more.

The 31-year-old singer seems unable to escape the relentless online scrutiny concerning her body whenever she is in the public eye.

A recent image of her signing autographs at the BAFTAs led fans to describe her as “alarmingly thin” and “excessively slender.” One comment expressed concern, stating, “I hope she can address this before it becomes critical. I can only imagine her organs are under strain.”

Another commenter noted, “She struggles with anxiety, and this image suggests she is improving. She was even smaller at one point.”

“I hope she is alright. She does not appear to be in good health,” another individual remarked. “…Something seems amiss.”

Many quickly conjectured that Ariana Grande’s appearance might be indicative of an eating disorder.

“There is a distinction between Hollywood thin and dangerously thin, and she falls into the latter category, which is concerning,” one user commented.

“This is indicative of anorexia,” another person stated, with a third agreeing, “Indeed, she appears to be suffering from anorexia. Immediate assistance is necessary before it affects her heart.”

“This situation is becoming increasingly worrisome,” a fan added. “Every time she is seen, she appears to be losing more weight. To those claiming she is fine, she is not; this is a clear manifestation of anorexia.”

“She evidently has an eating disorder and requires support,” another commenter concluded.
Dr. Patrick Wanis, an expert in behavior and relationships, articulated that the ongoing scrutiny of Ariana Grande’s appearance is largely influenced by what psychologists refer to as a “parasocial relationship.” This phenomenon describes the one-sided emotional bond that fans form with a celebrity, despite the latter being unaware of their existence.

“Ariana Grande rose to fame as a child star on Nickelodeon at approximately 17 years of age. The audience has matured alongside her, viewing her through a lens of nostalgia, innocence, and a static representation of youth,” Dr. Wanis conveyed in an email to Bored Panda.

“As a result, any alteration in her physical appearance—whether it be weight loss, weight gain, or the natural process of aging—is amplified, as the public expects her to remain unchanged indefinitely. Her fans resonate with her youthful image.”

The topic of weight fluctuations within the entertainment sector has been a longstanding issue. Celebrities such as Christina Aguilera and Katy Perry frequently attract media attention for any changes in their weight, regardless of whether it is an increase or decrease.

Significant pressure
Women in the celebrity sphere often encounter tremendous pressure to adhere to unrealistic body ideals, which can result in unhealthy weight management behaviors.

Although Grande has not publicly commented on the health concerns raised, her supporters are encouraging her to prioritize her health and well-being.

“The public anticipates that female celebrities achieve an unattainable equilibrium—being slim but not excessively so, toned yet not overly muscular, and appearing natural without being too authentic. This reflects the immense pressure and societal expectations placed on women,” Dr. Wanis elaborated.

This “harmful combination of nostalgia, beauty ideals, and social media influence” imposes significant stress on Grande and other pop icons to “remain perpetually youthful while simultaneously adhering to unrealistic standards of perfection,” stated Dr. Wanis, who is also the founder of SRTT Therapy (Subconscious Rapid Transformation Technique).
