Demi Moore reunites with Whoopi Goldberg at Oscars 2025: ‘Ghost’ moment revived after 35 years causes a fever on the red carpet! (N)

Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg shared a delightful reunion on the red carpet at the Oscars on Sunday, marking 35 years since they co-starred in the film Ghost.

Whoopi, aged 69, received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the medium Oda Mae Brown in that film.

Currently, Demi, 62, is being considered for her first Oscar nomination in her illustrious career, as she is nominated for Best Actress for her role in the body horror film The Substance.

Just hours before the announcement of the winners, Demi radiated her signature glamour on the red carpet. Footage obtained by Variety captured her warmly greeting Whoopi, who enthusiastically took both of Demi’s hands in a gesture of encouragement.

While some parts of their exchange were not clearly audible, Demi was heard affectionately complimenting her former co-star, saying, “You look gorgeous.”

Ghost featured Demi alongside Patrick Swayze as a couple named Sam and Molly, whose love story is tragically interrupted when Sam is murdered in a criminal scheme. Sam remains on Earth as a ghost, determined to protect Molly from danger with the assistance of a fraudulent psychic portrayed by Whoopi, who won an Oscar for this role.

The film Ghost became a massive success, emerging as the highest-grossing movie of 1990, a year that also saw the releases of Pretty Woman and Home Alone.

This year’s Oscars will be hosted by the beloved former late-night television host Conan O’Brien, who is taking on the role for the first time. Upon the announcement of his hosting duties, the famously humble comedian humorously remarked, “I only agreed to host so that I could get invited.”

Leading the nominations this year is the Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez, featuring Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, and Karla Sofia Gascon, with a total of 13 nominations, including Best Picture.
Karla has received a nomination for best actress due to her portrayal of a cartel leader who fakes her death to undergo a gender transition.

However, her campaign for the Oscars faced significant challenges when old tweets resurfaced, containing her controversial opinions on topics such as George Floyd and Islam.

In a recent event, Adrien Brody, Mikey Madison, Zoe Saldana, and Kieran Culkin were photographed from left to right. Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore were also featured in a scene from “Ghost,” which became the highest-grossing film of 1990, a year that also included the releases of “Pretty Woman” and “Home Alone.” Footage obtained by Variety shows Whoopi warmly greeting Demi, offering encouragement by embracing her.

Whoopi, aged 69, previously won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her role in “Ghost,” while Demi, at 62, is a contender for this year’s Oscars as a nominee for best actress for her performance in “The Substance.” Just hours before the announcement of the winners, Demi showcased her signature glamour on the red carpet.

Zoe is also in the running for best supporting actress, while Jacques Audiard is nominated for best director for his work on the film.

“The Brutalist,” featuring Adrien Brody as a Hungarian Jewish Holocaust survivor turned architect in postwar America, follows closely behind “Emilia Perez” with a total of 10 nominations.

Adrien is nominated for best actor, alongside Brady Corbet for best director, Guy Pearce for best supporting actor, and Felicity Jones for best supporting actress.

“Wicked” shares the spotlight with “The Brutalist,” each receiving 10 nominations, including best picture, best actress for Cynthia Erivo, and best supporting actress for Ariana Grande.

Additionally, “Anora,” directed by Sean Baker and a winner of the Palme d’Or at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, is competing for the best picture award. Its lead actress, Mikey Madison, is nominated for best actress for her role as a New York stripper, while Russian actor Yura Borisov is recognized in the best supporting actor category.
Other nominees for best picture include the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, featuring Timothée Chalamet, who is also a contender for best actor.

The drama Conclave, which focuses on the election of a new Pope, the sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two, and the Brazilian political film I’m Still Here are also in the running for best picture.

Ghost, starring Demi and Patrick Swayze, portrays a couple named Sam and Molly whose love story is tragically interrupted when Sam is murdered as part of a criminal scheme.

Additionally, last year’s highly discussed horror film The Substance has garnered attention, with Demi Moore receiving her first best actress nomination for her remarkable performance in the film.

Adrien was initially favored to win best actor, but Timothée’s unexpected victory at the Screen Actors Guild Award last weekend has altered many predictions.

The best actress category remains uncertain, with some speculating that Demi may take home the award following the widespread acclaim for her return in The Substance.

Kieran Culkin appears to be a strong candidate for best supporting actor for his role in A Real Pain, which was both written and directed by his co-star Jesse Eisenberg, as he has dominated the awards circuit thus far.

Zoe has also achieved several wins in the best supporting actress category, which features Ariana Grande as Glinda in Wicked and Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown.

Anora has secured the best picture award at both the Directors Guild of America Awards and the Producers Guild of America Awards, both of which are considered significant indicators for the Oscars, especially when evaluated together.
