DOGE Unveils Impressive Progress After First 10 Days

The recently formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has made a notable impact by eliminating $1 billion in contracts associated with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) within its first ten days of operation. This initiative has influenced 24 federal agencies, including the Departments of Education, Labor, Treasury, Defense, Homeland Security, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

On January 29, 2025, DOGE revealed the cancellation of 85 contracts related to DEIA across multiple departments. This decision is in accordance with President Trump’s Executive Order on Government Efficiency, which was signed on Inauguration Day and aimed to enhance federal operations, minimize waste, and remove superfluous diversity initiatives. The Department of Government Efficiency has assumed the duties of the U.S. Digital Service, which is responsible for enhancing federal performance and addressing inefficiencies.

Significant reductions included approximately $500 million in contracts from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and $110 million from the Department of Agriculture. Other agencies, such as the Department of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services, also implemented considerable cuts.

DOGE plans to persist in eliminating wasteful contracts over the next 18 months, with a dedicated task force supervising these initiatives. Furthermore, the Department of Veterans Affairs has announced that it has placed 60 employees engaged in DEI policies on administrative leave to realign its focus on its primary mission of supporting veterans.
