Emily Ratajkowski Is Tired Of Comedian Mocking Her Photos
The comedian Celeste Barber hails from Australia and frequently shares images in which she attempts to replicate the appearances of various celebrities. Her parodies include notable figures such as Kim Kardashian and Gwyneth Paltrow, many of whom appreciate the humor in her work. However, this is not the case for Emily Ratajkowski, who has been the subject of Barber’s comedic comparisons, particularly in a side-by-side image from 2021 where Barber posed in a bikini next to a similar photograph of Ratajkowski. Barber captioned the image: “We are sick of you objectifying our bodies! Also, here’s my a**.”
Ratajkowski appears to have taken offense to the photo, as Barber noted, “I don’t think Emily is a fan. That’s okay, she’s allowed to not love it. But she blocked me.” It seems that personal appearances may be a sensitive topic for Ratajkowski, who has previously expressed frustration over being deemed “too pretty” for certain roles, stating, “It’s so crazy and frustrating. You can’t get a part because they’ve seen too many pictures of you being a model. It takes a lot for someone to take a risk on you.”
In another discussion, she reflected on the dynamics of beauty and power, saying, “It had never occurred to me that the women who gained their power from beauty were indebted to the men whose desire granted them that power in the first place. Those men were the ones in control, not the women the world fawned over.”
When addressing the situation with Barber on her podcast, Ratajkowski remarked, “This whole drama with Celeste has been blown out of proportion. In general, I find her to be really funny. But the message I was trying to send to her was, ‘I just don’t want you to do this to me anymore.’”
I aspire to pursue my passions, which include documenting my harrowing experiences in an industry that fails to safeguard women, young girls, and those who present as feminine, while also launching a swimwear line.
“I reached a point where I could no longer grant her my consent for that joke. It resonated with me at a particular moment.”
Ratajkowski elaborated on her objections, stating, “There is a tendency to ridicule female influencers, portraying them as the most trivial, embarrassing, and cringe-worthy individuals imaginable.
“I find this perspective to be fundamentally sexist. Of course, women aspire to be influencers; it is one of the avenues through which they have learned to achieve success and generate income. They are working hard.”
Barber chose to respond, expressing, “I enjoy expressing my opinions freely. It is something I do frequently. My quick wit is one of my favorite attributes.
“I dislike the feeling that I cannot express myself as openly as I would like, and I do sometimes feel the need to self-censor. However, there are times when I disregard that concern and act as if I have already faced cancellation.
“I wish them luck. It is a no-win situation. One day they criticize your actions, and the next day you are celebrated as the best.”
