In a statement to the Associated Press, Joey Padilla, the owner of Santa Fe Tails pet care, remarked that Zinna, the deceased dog, “was always by Betsy’s side, and their bond was truly beautiful… Zinna transformed from a returned shelter dog into an extraordinary companion under Betsy’s care.”

Padilla, who was acquainted with the couple and their dogs that were often boarded at his facility, noted that the couple’s two German Shepherds, Bear, aged 4, and Nikita, aged 7, survived and are currently receiving proper care.
