Gene Hackman’s daughter reveals what she thinks killed her father

The world is in mourning following the passing of the iconic actor Gene Hackman, who was discovered deceased in his Santa Fe residence this past Wednesday. Tragically, his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog were also found deceased alongside him.

At the age of 95, Hackman had experienced a long and distinguished life; however, the unexpected death of his wife, who was only 63, has raised questions regarding the circumstances of their demise.

In a conversation with TMZ, Hackman’s daughter, Elizabeth Jean Hackman, expressed her uncertainty about the events leading to this tragedy but indicated that carbon monoxide poisoning might be a potential factor. “The house is relatively modern, constructed in 2000,” she remarked. “However, we are unsure if there were any gas leak issues or if there had been any recent service calls to the residence.” Authorities responded promptly after a neighbor expressed concern, leading deputies to discover the bodies. They were soon joined by gas company representatives and fire department personnel to ensure that no hazardous fumes remained that could pose additional danger.

Despite the sorrowful circumstances, Elizabeth reflected on her father’s serene retirement. After retiring from Hollywood in 2004, Gene and Betsy cultivated a tranquil life in New Mexico, where he engaged in painting. She also mentioned that her father’s favorite film was The French Connection, a role that cemented his reputation as one of the greatest actors in Hollywood history.

Throughout his career, Hackman starred in over 70 films, leaving a lasting impact on the film industry. In 2009, he disclosed that a stress test conducted in New York influenced his decision to retire. “The straw that broke the camel’s back was actually a stress test,” he shared with Empire. “The doctor informed me that my heart was not in a condition that warranted any additional stress.”

While Elizabeth did not comment directly on his health, she reminisced about a rare public appearance just last March, during which Hackman was seen walking with a cane, assisted by Betsy. The investigation is still in progress, with officials dismissing any immediate indications of foul play. Nevertheless, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, under the leadership of Sheriff Adan Mendoza, is diligently examining all avenues to ascertain the cause of this tragic incident.

Gene Hackman and his wife had been united in marriage since 1991. He recently celebrated his 95th birthday in late January, although concerns regarding his health had emerged following a public appearance last year. Over a remarkable span of four decades, Hackman’s contributions to Hollywood were truly exceptional. The actor and author quietly withdrew from the entertainment industry in the late 2000s, having suggested in a 2004 interview with Larry King that he had no forthcoming projects.

The passing of Gene Hackman, along with his wife and their dog, creates a profound absence in the film industry and in the hearts of his admirers.

As the Hackman family navigates this profound grief, they remain dedicated to seeking the truth surrounding this unfortunate occurrence.
