Greggs staff left in disbelief after man orders ‘biggest ever bacon sarnie’ containing a staggering 7,600 calories

The competitive eater attempted to consume 100 bacon rashers in a single sitting.

Whether indulging in the traditional steak bake or exploring its various vegan alternatives, the establishment offers a range of options that include some of the most cherished national dishes of Britain. While enjoying a meat-filled pastry a few times weekly may satisfy one’s cravings, one must ponder if they could manage ‘the UK’s largest bacon sandwich.’

This was the challenge Craig Harker chose to undertake, aiming to conquer the nearly 8,000-calorie feat to assert his status as a potential superfan of Greggs.

At 37 years old, this father is a member of a competitive eating league and sought to challenge himself with the 100-piece bacon sandwich, which is served in an enormous white bun large enough to occupy a pizza box.

When he placed the unusual order, the bewildered server initially thought it was a joke. However, he soon received the colossal sandwich and had to pay £60 for the meal, which included full bottles of ketchup and brown sauce.

Known on social media as Dad Loves Food, the culinary enthusiast described the creation as approximately nine inches tall, humorously dubbing it the ‘bacon Mount Everest.’

“Look at that, that’s absolutely insane. It’s like a whole pig in a box,” he remarked to his followers.

Video footage captured Craig ordering his gigantic meal at a Greggs location in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, revealing that he struggled to hold the entire sandwich.

Upon returning home, the founder of the British Eating League began to tackle the enormous sandwich and towering stack of bacon, accompanied by some Coca-Cola to aid in the endeavor.
After consuming just 38 rashers, he decided to end the challenge due to increasing difficulty.

“I believe that consuming 100 slices is unfeasible,” he asserted.

“I doubt anyone could accomplish it, perhaps [competitive eater] Max vs Food might have a chance, or someone affiliated with the British Eating League, but certainly not me.

“I think I will opt for smaller challenges in the future.” He ultimately distributed the remaining rashers to his friends and family, likening the sandwich to “holding a newborn baby.”

“I took it home because it was too cumbersome to hold while standing; the children gathered around, eagerly anticipating the leftovers,” Craig recounted.

He emphasized that there was no waste due to the numerous hungry individuals present, adding, “I never want to see a piece of bacon again.”

The pub owner remarked that even his most experienced competitive eaters would find the enormous bacon sandwich a formidable task, as he barely managed to consume more than a third of the rashers.

Craig had previously garnered attention for creating a sandwich with 51 rashers, but this challenge proved to be excessive.

Expressing his desire to find a unique challenge, he noted, “As a member of the British Eating League, it can be quite challenging to discover new challenges, so I often have to devise them for the eaters.

“It is the largest bacon sandwich I have ever encountered or attempted, and I believe even the world’s top eaters would find it difficult to tackle something of that size.”
