How Barron Trump is making friends at NYU

Barron Trump is set to live independently from his father, Donald Trump, for the first time in several years. He has recently enrolled at New York University, where it appears that his peers hold a variety of opinions about him.

Following his father’s departure from the White House in 2020, little information has emerged regarding Barron’s life. However, a former classmate from Oxbridge Academy, the high school from which Barron graduated in Palm Beach, Florida, recently asserted that the now 18-year-old son of the 47th President of the United States was not integrated into the social scene at the school.

Now that Barron has reached adulthood and is attending college, a typical expectation would be for him to explore new experiences and forge new friendships. Nevertheless, reports indicate that he is encountering challenges in this regard, attempting to connect with others in unconventional ways.

Barron Trump’s upbringing has been distinctly unique. He spent his early years at Trump Tower, where he reportedly occupied his own floor from a young age, and later resided in the White House during his father’s first presidential term.

In 2020, following Donald Trump’s exit from the White House, Barron and his family relocated to their Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. His mother, Melania Trump, took extensive measures to shield him from the media attention surrounding his father, leading him to enroll at the private institution, Oxbridge Academy.

During this time, Barron was largely kept out of the public eye, with few sightings and no reports detailing his academic experiences. Recently, however, a former classmate provided some insight into Barron’s life at school. It was reported that the Secret Service accompanied him at all times, as he attended classes under an assumed name, with agents stationed outside his classroom and even escorting him to the restroom.
Barron was reportedly registered under the name Jack in school records and databases to safeguard his personal information and academic performance from potential cyber threats. During his time in school, he did not engage in sports activities and preferred to have his meals apart from his classmates. A former student shared with the Daily Mail that it was unfortunate Barron did not experience high school in the same manner as his peers.

“Barron had a great sense of humor and was quite sociable. He would initiate the most unexpected conversations and was very entertaining,” the acquaintance remarked to the Mail.

“He also had an air of mystery about him; he never attended football games or dances. I don’t believe he socialized outside of school or went on dates. If he had a girlfriend, it was a closely guarded secret that we were unaware of.”

The friend concluded, “I’m sure he found enjoyment in his own way, but it is somewhat regrettable that he did not have a typical high school experience like everyone else.”

Barron graduated from Oxbridge Academy with his parents proudly in attendance. For a time, it was unclear which college he would choose, but ultimately, he selected New York University, where he is currently enrolled in Stern’s Business School.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Donald Trump mentioned that his son had considered following his path by attending the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. However, he ultimately decided to remain in New York City, the place of his upbringing.

Stern Business School is regarded as one of the premier business schools in the United States, with only 1 in 20 applicants gaining admission to the undergraduate program.

“It’s an exceptional institution. He enjoyed it. He liked the school,” Trump stated to DailyMail.com. “We have a long-standing appreciation for NYU, and it is among the highest-rated schools.”

“I attended Wharton, and that was certainly one of our considerations. However, we chose Stern instead. He is a very capable young man, but he is no longer a child. He has transitioned into a new phase of life.”
Donald stated that Barron intends to pursue soccer at New York University. He has long been an avid soccer enthusiast and was a member of the youth team for DC United, one of the Major League Soccer clubs, during his time residing in the White House.

Since departing from the White House, Barron has been under the protection of the Secret Service, and the 18-year-old will continue to have agents assigned to him while he attends NYU. The federal law enforcement agency has confirmed that Barron will receive protection, although specific details regarding the nature of that protection have not been disclosed.

Meanwhile, Anthony Guglielmi, Chief of Communications for the U.S. Secret Service, informed Newsweek: “The President-elect has been receiving increased Secret Service protection, and this level of security will be sustained in the future.”

“While we cannot disclose specific details to maintain the integrity of our operations, family members and executive staff of the President-elect may also receive protection in accordance with federal law.”

Guglielmi further noted: “Enhanced security measures in Palm Beach County, Florida, and New York City are currently being coordinated. The Secret Service is dedicated to collaborating with local partners in these areas to keep the community informed about any potential public impacts.”

Due to his academic commitments, Barron will not reside in the White House as he did during his father’s previous presidential term. It is likely that he will continue living at Trump Tower, although it remains uncertain whether Melania will accompany him.

What type of protection is Barron Trump receiving? In a conversation with Newsweek, Paul Eckloff, a former Secret Service agent who served under Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump, as well as their families, explained that a president’s child is regarded as a “soft target” in law enforcement and military terminology.

This designation implies that they are viewed as less secure, rendering them vulnerable and creating a potentially hazardous environment for those in their vicinity. Eckloff indicated that this could mean Barron might be “sitting in a student union.”
Barron was captured by paparazzi on his inaugural day at NYU. In the meantime, the presence of many ordinary students at the institution has elicited a range of reactions regarding Barron.

The Daily Mail visited the NYU campus to engage with students, one of whom speculated that Barron might adapt his perspective to better integrate with his peers.

“He’s attending NYU, so if he has any interest in girls, he’s likely to adopt a more liberal stance, I can assure you,” remarked one student to the Daily Mail.

Another student expressed, “My mother would want me to marry him.”

As previously noted, Secret Service agents will consistently accompany Barron on campus. A third student conveyed sympathy for him, stating that he “did not choose this life.”

A fourth student commented, “His father is his father, and he is his own person, so I won’t pass judgment,” adding that she would certainly consider forming a friendship. “Naturally, who wouldn’t want to be friends with a Trump?”

However, not everyone is enthusiastic about the president’s son attending NYU. One student firmly stated she would “absolutely not” befriend Barron.

“It highlights the privilege that many NYU students possess. I’m only here due to financial aid,” she told the Daily Mail.

So, how is Barron faring in his studies? According to a source from People Magazine, the 18-year-old has garnered considerable attention from female students since beginning his classes in September.

“He’s enrolled at Stern, focusing on business. He’s definitely a ladies’ man and quite popular among them,” the source revealed. “He’s tall and attractive. Many find him appealing — even those who lean liberal.”

Establishing new friendships in an unfamiliar environment can be daunting. While being Donald Trump’s son may attract attention, it is crucial to connect with individuals who genuinely wish to be friends, rather than those seeking to associate with someone famous. Given that Barron is always accompanied by Secret Service agents, forming authentic relationships may prove to be a challenge.
Barron seems to be facing challenges in forming friendships. According to the US outlet TMZ, he has struggled to integrate at New York University. Nevertheless, he has discovered an innovative method to connect with potential friends through online platforms. The report indicates that Barron has engaged in online gaming, inviting his classmates to join him in virtual play.

TMZ notes that he has encouraged them to participate on the widely-used gaming platform Discord, where users can both play games and communicate. Being an avid soccer enthusiast, he enjoys the popular video game EA Sports FC 25.

Although Trump Tower is in close proximity to New York University, Barron is reportedly transported to and from campus in an SUV. Despite this, classmates have characterized him as “chill.”

Melania Trump has consistently acted as her son’s protector. In December, during an appearance on Fox and Friends, she discussed Barron’s college journey, emphasizing that his experience at NYU will be markedly different from that of his peers.

“I don’t think it’s possible for him to be a normal student. His experience at college — it’s very different than any other kid,” Melania Trump remarked. “He’s very strong and he knows that he’s in a different position than other children.”
