Joseph David Keery also known as Joe Keery is an American actor, and musician. Keery is most well-known for his character Steve Harrington in the science fiction show Stranger Things and his character as a comedian in Free Guy. Keery is a musician who performs using the stage name Djo. He was a former member of the rock group psychedelic Post Animal.

Keery is a native of Newburyport, Massachusetts. He is the son of an architect, and his mother has a job as an English professor. He is the fifth in a family of five.

Early Life

Keery was born in Newburyport and was a student at River Valley Charter School, one of the local Montessori middle and elementary schools, and Newburyport High School. When he was a kid, he participated in Theater in the Open, an art and performing camp located in Maudslay State Park, but later on, he started acting in high school, first acting at his elder sister’s request.

Keery continued to study in The Theatre School at DePaul University and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting.

After finishing his studies at DePaul, Keery went to over 100 auditions. Before his breakthrough role as a character in Stranger Things, Keery appeared in the KFC and Domino commercial. He also had parts on the screen in Empire in Chicago Fire and Empire. Chicago Fire. The first time he appeared in a feature film full-length came in Stephen Cone’s independent Henry Gamble’s Birthday Party.

Joe Keery was cast in the final quarter of 2015 after auditioning for Jonathan’s part. He then put an audition tape of the character of Steve. The show premiered in 2016 to acclaim from critics. He was promoted from a recurring cast member to series regular in Season 2 of Stranger Things. The third and fourth seasons were released in 2022 and 2019, respectively.

He also portrayed the role of Walter “Keys” McKey, the game’s developer, in the action comedy film Free Guy, which became a major box-office smash. Post Animals:

He started his Music career with his band called Post Animals. Keery was the drummer and guitarist for the band. Post Animal is a Chicago-based garage band and psych-rock group. Post Animal. In his early 20s, Keery released music called “Cool Cool Cool.” Their debut album debuted in October 2015. Their second album, “When I Consider You Within A Castle,” was released in April 2018. It featured Keery singing and playing guitar. In 2019, Keery was no longer an active member of the group. Later he had to let go of the band due to commitments as an actor.

Rise of the solo artist Djo:

On July 19, 2019, Keery released his single “Roddy” as a solo artist under the moniker Djo. Keery released his second single on August 9, 2019. Later, Keery released a follow-up track titled “Chateau (Feel Alright)” under the same moniker. 

On September 13, Keery dropped his first album Twenty-Twenty. In a brilliant evaluation of the album, NME described Keery as:

“A musician of very high caliber who… dabbles in the kind of inventive, warped psychedelia that gently twists your melon and constantly shapeshifts around you.” Moreover, NME compared his music to Tame Impala and Ariel Pink.

On September 9, 2020, the singer released a brand new track, “Keep Your Head Up.” In 2022, the group participated in an outdoor music festival in the summer. The album he released as his sophomore Decide was released in June 2022 along and the debut of the album’s debut single, “Change.”
