Mom Installs Baby Monitor in Son’s Room and Gets Scared When She Sees Movement There

Alicia embraced her son Edduin, murmuring gently, “Do not fret, my dear. Everything will be alright. Mother is here.” It was yet another sleepless night, with the child crying inconsolably. Setting her work aside, she held him on the couch, softly humming a lullaby that took longer than usual to bring him comfort. Once Edduin settled, she carefully laid him in his crib, placed a tender kiss on his forehead, and quietly exited the room.

As she poured herself a cup of coffee, her thoughts drifted, “How will I manage everything like this? I wish you were here, John. I miss you dearly.”

Nearly a year prior, Alicia and her husband John had reconciled with the reality of being unable to conceive. They had chosen to explore the world, visiting destinations such as Sydney, Honolulu, and Las Vegas. However, just before they were set to embark on a trip to the Bahamas, Alicia discovered she was expecting. The couple returned to their hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina, eager to share the joyous news with friends and neighbors.

Both Alicia and John had grown up in foster care as orphans. While Alicia remained at home, John worked as a managing director for a company specializing in household electronic components. They enjoyed a fulfilling life together—a loving home, a strong marriage, and the anticipation of a child. Yet, their joy was abruptly shattered one tragic day.

The call came as a shock. “Hello? Am I speaking with Alicia Silvers?” inquired the voice on the line. “Yes? How can I assist you?” Alicia replied. “This is Officer Duncan. I regret to inform you that your husband was involved in a fatal car accident on Farm Road Highway. We found your number in his phone and need you to come and identify the body.”
At that time, Alicia was seven months pregnant. She had sensed something was amiss when John left for his business trip that morning, but he had reassured her that all would be well. The devastating news overwhelmed her, triggering her labor. Fortunately, her neighbor, Mrs. Hall, acted swiftly, calling 911 and ensuring Alicia was transported to the hospital, where she gave birth to a premature son, Edduin.
After their discharge, Alicia assumed control of John’s business, applying her MBA expertise to manage operations while also caring for her newborn. Madison, John’s secretary, proved to be an invaluable resource, recommending that Alicia work from home to remain with Edduin. Although Alicia had the option to hire a nanny, she preferred to personally nurture her child, striving to balance her professional responsibilities and motherhood from the comfort of her home.

As a year went by, a semblance of routine emerged—until peculiar occurrences began to unfold. One morning, Alicia was awakened by Edduin’s loud cries. Hurrying to his room, she discovered him in distress for the second time that week. She examined his crib, attempting to discern the source of his unhappiness, but found nothing amiss. Assuming he would soon calm down, she was surprised when his crying continued, and he appeared increasingly fatigued each day.

Worried, Alicia took him to the pediatrician. “He seems perpetually tired, yet he’s not ill,” she conveyed. The doctor offered reassurance, stating, “It’s merely a phase. Babies experience this, and it will eventually pass.” Nevertheless, Edduin continued to exhibit signs of exhaustion daily, yawning frequently and showing little engagement with his toys.

A week later, while settling him down for a nap one afternoon, Alicia heard unusual sounds emanating from his room. It resembled laughter and movement. Alarmed, she rushed in, only to find everything in order. Edduin looked up at her, serene and quiet, with no indication of the source of the noise. This phenomenon recurred—laughter and movement, yet no one was present in the room.

Determined to uncover the mystery, Alicia set up a baby monitor to keep an eye on him. As she observed the live feed, all appeared normal—until she noticed unexpected movement in the room. Edduin’s face lit up with a smile, prompting Alicia to fear that someone was in the room with him. Heart racing, she dashed to his room and flung open the door, only to be taken aback by what she encountered.
A small, unkempt dog was circling Edduin’s crib instead of an intruder. Upon Alicia’s entrance, the dog emitted a faint whine and quickly sought refuge behind the crib. Edduin’s giggle revealed the situation to Alicia.

It became apparent that Alicia and John had previously owned a dog named Doblo, who had since passed away. The nursery, now designated for Edduin, had once served as Doblo’s play area, and they had neglected to secure the dog door after his demise. The little stray had wandered in, engaging with Edduin and disrupting his sleep.

Moved by the plight of the small creature, Alicia chose to adopt the dog, naming him Casper. The bond between Casper and Edduin flourished, leading to a newfound companionship. With Casper’s presence, Edduin experienced increased happiness, improved sleep, and reduced crying. Although Alicia ensured they had separate time for rest, the joy brought by their connection revitalized the household.
