Recently, a spokesperson for Oprah Winfrey announced via Instagram that she would be making an appearance on CBS Mornings to reveal her latest book club selection. Unfortunately, over the weekend, the well-known host fell ill due to a stomach virus. Gayle King stepped in to clarify Winfrey’s absence.

“Ms. Winfrey is currently recovering from a stomach virus and has received IV treatment for dehydration as advised by her doctor,” a representative for Winfrey stated in a Tuesday announcement to CNN. “She is resting and improving each day.”

In a video call shared on Gayle King’s Instagram, Winfrey informed her close friend and journalist that she “couldn’t keep enough water down to stay hydrated,” which necessitated her visit to the hospital.

King reassured viewers that Winfrey will ultimately “be OK” following this health challenge.

“I hope she’s not upset with me for sharing that detail,” she added.

In a joint interview with the New York Times in January, Winfrey and King expressed their admiration for one another and discussed the foundations of their enduring friendship.

“She is a candid truth-teller, even when the truth is hard to hear,” King remarked about Winfrey at that time. “[We] truly enjoy each other’s company.”

Earlier in January, Winfrey demonstrated that despite being 70, she remains physically active. A video she shared on Instagram depicted the media mogul running on the beach alongside her dog and another woman. In the caption, she celebrated health as the greatest gift and expressed gratitude to those who sent her birthday wishes.
