Oscar-Winning Actor Gene Hackman and Wife Betsy Arakawa Found Dead in Their Home – Details
The esteemed actor and his spouse, a classical pianist, had been united in marriage since 1991 and were recognized for their preference for privacy.
Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found deceased in their residence at Santa Fe Summit on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 26. At this stage, authorities do not suspect any foul play, although an investigation is currently underway.
On Wednesday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies responded to the couple’s home on Old Sunset Trail to look into the deaths of two elderly individuals and a dog. It remains uncertain whether the officers were called for a welfare check or if they were alerted to the situation through other means. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed shortly after midnight on Thursday that the two-time Oscar winner Gene Hackman, his wife, and their dog had all passed away. While there were no immediate signs of foul play, the cause of death has not been disclosed, nor has an estimated time of passing been provided.
The 95-year-old actor and author, along with his 63-year-old wife, had been residents of Santa Fe since the 1980s. Their home was situated in a gated community off Hyde Park Road, just north of Ten Thousand Waves. Sheriff Mendoza indicated that his team is in the preliminary stages of the investigation as they await authorization for a search warrant. He also assured the community that there is no immediate danger to public safety.
