Police Share New Details On Death Of Gene Hackman And Wife Saying They Had Been ‘Dead For Some Time’
Legendary actor Gene Hackman, aged 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, aged 63, were discovered deceased in their residence in Santa Fe on Wednesday. Authorities have confirmed their deaths, although the cause remains undetermined at this time; however, foul play is not suspected.
Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza indicated that a preliminary investigation into the deaths is underway, and officials are awaiting a search warrant. The couple was found in different rooms—Hackman in a mudroom and Arakawa in a bathroom adjacent to a space heater. A prescription bottle and scattered pills were noted in the bathroom.
Elizabeth, Hackman’s daughter, expressed to TMZ her concerns regarding potential toxic fumes, possibly from carbon monoxide poisoning. A gas company is collaborating with investigators. Reports indicate that the couple may have been deceased for a considerable duration, with their remains showing signs of partial mummification.
Hackman, a two-time Academy Award winner, appeared in more than 80 films, including notable titles such as Bonnie and Clyde, The French Connection, and Superman. He retired from acting in 2004 to focus on writing novels. He and Arakawa, a former pianist, had been married since 1991.
The entertainment industry is in mourning over the loss of this iconic actor and his wife. Rest in peace, Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa.
