Sick way Indiana boy, 10, died under 340-pound foster mom who ‘thought he was faking’ as he gasped for breath
A 10-year-old boy from Indiana tragically lost his life after being crushed by his 340-pound foster mother, who sat on him for several minutes, mistakenly believing he was pretending as he struggled to breathe.
Jennifer Lee Wilson, 48, has been charged with reckless homicide in connection with the death of her foster child, Dakota Stevens.
On April 25, law enforcement responded to an emergency call regarding a child who was not breathing at a residence in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Upon arrival, officers found that the boy had no pulse and observed a concerning bruise on his neck and chest.
Dakota was immediately transported to the hospital, but despite urgent resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that Wilson, who stands at 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 340 pounds, informed authorities that Dakota had run away earlier that day. According to documents obtained by Express US, she claimed to have found him at a neighbor’s house and brought him back, but stated he was still “acting out” and had thrown himself on the ground.
Wilson admitted to sitting on the small boy, who was only 4 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 90 pounds, for about five minutes. Surveillance footage captured the moment she was pressing down on his neck and head while he screamed.
The video showed his cries gradually diminishing until he eventually stopped moving. Wilson chillingly stated that she thought he was “faking” until she noticed his eyelids had turned pale.

Surveillance footage from a ring camera captured the moment Wilson was positioned over the boy’s neck and head while he screamed. His cries were audible in the video, gradually diminishing over time.
An autopsy report indicated that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia, and the manner of death was classified as homicide.
A neighbor informed authorities that Dakota had approached her that day, requesting her to adopt him after claiming that his ‘parents’ had struck him in the face, as reported by Fox News.
In January, Wilson was sentenced to six years in prison, with one year suspended to be served on probation, according to NBC5.
She resided with three adopted children in her household.
Following the tragic event, the Department of Child Services confirmed that her foster parent license is currently suspended and under review.
