Super Bowl viewers divided at what happened when camera panned to Donald Trump during national anthem
During the broadcast of the national anthem, Super Bowl attendees expressed some discontent when the camera focused on Donald Trump. This evening, as the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles at the New Orleans Superdome, the 78-year-old former president makes history as the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl.
The camera captured Trump alongside his daughter Ivanka in the stands while Jon Batiste performed the national anthem with great enthusiasm prior to the game.
However, a segment of the audience perceived that the crowd was mocking the new president during the singer’s performance.
One viewer remarked, “You guys didn’t boo Donald Trump loud enough.”
Another individual stated, “It was quite inappropriate to show Trump during Jon Batiste’s rendition of the National Anthem; it compelled me and many others to boo.”
A different comment questioned, “Did they applaud or jeer at Trump? It’s difficult to discern.”
The sentiment was echoed by another viewer who asked, “Did they cheer or boo Trump at the #SuperBowlLIX?”
Donald Trump is indeed the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl.
In a statement released before the game, Trump expressed, “I am thrilled to join the fans in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX to support two exceptional teams – the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs – as they vie for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the National Football League.”
He continued, “Their individual journeys are as inspiring as the drive and determination that have led them to this extraordinary moment, and their hard work, dedication, and tenacity are commendable. As we work to restore safety and fairness in sports and ensure equal opportunities among teams, they also embody the aspirations and hopes of our nation’s young athletes.”
Football holds a special place in American culture, as it brings together families, friends, and supporters, fostering community spirit.
“We honor their selfless service and appreciate their commitment to defending our great nation.”
