Supreme Court Issues Conflicted Ruling In Trump Case

The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday chose not to reverse a lower court’s decision that reinstated federal spending contracts at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), leading to criticism from conservative factions.

In a narrow 5-4 ruling, the Court denied President Trump’s appeal to maintain the freeze on billions of dollars while the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) conducts an audit of USAID contractor payments for potential waste.

Following the ruling, officials from the Trump administration asserted that legitimate contractors would receive their payments once the audit is finalized. Four justices from the conservative bloc expressed dissent, with Justice Alito describing the ruling as “a most unfortunate misstep.”

The majority opinion indicated that a lower court needs to clarify the obligations related to compliance with the temporary restraining order. Legal experts observed that this ruling merely paves the way for future determinations regarding payment schedules.
