The former president, Donald Trump decided not to answer any questions last Wednesday during a deposition with the office of New York Attorney General Tish James. He invoked his fifth Amendment right.

Trump’s Deposition

Trump has a long history of being accused by Tish James of using his political power to motivate his family’s real estate business. He had “absolutely no choice” but to take the fifth during his hearing in James’ office last Wednesday. James is not done yet and is further leading an investigation into Trump’s business activities. He claims that the ex president misused asset values on financial paperwork.

“When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the Fake News Media, you have no choice.” Trump said in statement released by his ex-presidential office.

“Attorney General James will pursue the facts and the law wherever they may lead. Our investigation continues,” confirmed a spokesperson for the Attorney General.

The scenes on Wednesday were absolutely thrilling as well. Media followed him from his apartment at Trump Tower to Attorney James’ office. Secret Service agents and NYPD officers were also looking after the place. Officers further stopper people from entering the area of the building throughout the morning.

Trump Accused For Other Crimes As Well

Trump’s deposition was long planned by James and his men as they started investigating into the matter three years ago. Although Trump left no stone unturned to somehow steer clear of the deposition but couldn’t. The FBI also investigated his house in Florida to investigate the mishandling of the White House records.

He is further liable in a fraudulent property inflation case. This criminal investigation is being conducted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

Trump had publicly stated during his campaign in 2016 that “if you’re innocent, why are you taking the fifth amendment?”, Although on Wednesday he stated, he knows “the answer to that question.”
