Tsunami Warning As 7.6-magnitude Earthquake Strikes In Major Travel Destination

A significant earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale occurred in the Caribbean on Saturday, just north of Honduras, at 6:23 p.m. EST. The US Tsunami Warning System released advisories for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands following the event. Initially assessed at a magnitude of 6.89, the earthquake struck at a depth of 6.21 miles. By 8:13 p.m., the National Weather Service in San Juan had lifted the tsunami advisory. Nevertheless, alerts remained in effect for the Caribbean Sea and regions adjacent to Honduras. Residents of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands were cautioned to avoid beaches, harbors, marinas, bays, and inlets due to potential hazards. The situation continues to develop.
