UK’s ‘youngest ever mum gives birth aged 12 with family unaware of pregnancy’

A girl who recently gave birth at the age of 11 is reported to be the youngest mother in the UK, with her family reportedly unaware of her pregnancy. According to reports, the young mother, who was only 10 when she conceived, delivered earlier this month, and both she and her newborn are in good health.

Social services are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy and are in communication with her family, who were not informed of the situation. A source mentioned to The Sun, “This has come as a significant shock. She is now receiving support from experts. The priority is that both she and the baby are well. There are concerns regarding the lack of awareness among those close to her, which is quite troubling.”

The previous record for the youngest mother in the UK was held by Tressa Middleton, who gave birth at the age of 12 in 2006, after revealing that the father was her brother, who had assaulted her.

In 2014, the record for the youngest parents was noted as a 13-year-old father and a 12-year-old mother. Typically, girls begin puberty around the age of 11, although it can occur between the ages of eight and 14, with body weight being a contributing factor.

Pregnancies in very young individuals carry a higher risk of complications, including premature labor, infections, and pre-eclampsia. There was also a reported case in 2017 of another girl in the UK giving birth at the age of 11, but details on that case remain scarce.

The youngest mother on record globally is Lina Medina from Peru, who gave birth at the age of five years and seven months in May 1939 to a son named Gerardo. Initially, her parents believed she had a tumor, but upon medical examination, it was discovered that she was seven months pregnant.
