“We have been receiving an increasing number of inquiries regarding red bites on dogs’ stomachs,” the clinic stated, adding:

“These are a type of fly bite, typically acquired when dogs lie in the grass. Although they may look alarming, they usually do not cause discomfort to the dogs. They tend to heal quickly on their own and do not necessitate any treatment. These flies are generally present for a few weeks each spring before disappearing. We hope this alleviates any concerns you may have had regarding your own pet!”
