wo planes crash midair at Marana Airport in Arizona, just days after the Toronto tragedy

Two small single-engine aircraft were involved in a midair collision on Wednesday morning at an airport in Arizona, according to officials. The Federal Aviation Administration reported that a Lancair 360 MK II and a Cessna 172S collided at Marana Regional Airport, which operates without an air traffic control tower, shortly before 8:30 a.m. local time.
This airport also functions as a training site for pilots.
There are approximately 20,000 non-towered airports across the United States. Pilots at these airports communicate their positions to one another using a Common Traffic Advisory Frequency. As law enforcement rushed to the scene, one of the aircraft appeared to remain largely intact.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) indicated that the single-engine planes were involved in the incident while they were “upwind of runway 12,” one of the two runways at the small regional airport in Arizona.
The Cessna was unable to land successfully, while the Lancair “impacted the terrain near runway 3, resulting in a post-impact fire.” Each aircraft was carrying two passengers. The crash resulted in the fatalities of two individuals aboard one of the planes.
In a statement, Marana Regional Airport Superintendent Galen Beem expressed condolences, stating, “On behalf of the Town of Marana and the Marana Regional Airport, our hearts go out to all the individuals and families impacted by this event. This is an unprecedented occurrence, and we are thankful for the prompt response from the Marana Police Department and Northwest Fire District.”
Regrettably, this incident adds to a series of recent plane crashes, including a tragic event at Reagan International Airport last month that resulted in the deaths of 67 people when an American Airlines flight collided midair with a Black Hawk US Army helicopter.
Additionally, another crash involving a medical jet resulted in the loss of all passengers on board, including a young girl who was returning to Mexico from Philadelphia after undergoing life-saving surgery.
Just days before the accident at the Arizona airport, a plane overturned while landing in Toro.
